Anger In Motion

Somatic Approaches To

Working With Anger In The Body and In Relationships

Anger in Motion is a six-week private, body-based exploration of our relationship with anger, and the ways it shapes our bodies, choices and relationships.

Open to all genders.

“Because the truth is that anger isn’t what gets in our way

- it is our way.

All we have to do is own it.”

Soraya Chemaly

If anger feels difficult to access

If anger feels difficult to access, if it turns into anxiety, tension, or self-blame, or if you notice resentment building in your body and relationships, we can begin by getting curious about what is happening underneath.

We explore how anger shows up in your body, how it rises and moves, how it gets pushed down or turned inward, and how it can become tangled with anxiety, grief, fear, guilt or other emotions until it becomes difficult to recognize or name.

We build capacity to stay with anger as it moves through the body - its heat, pressure, energy, impulses and intensity, with enough support and pacing for the experience to remain workable.

Our work creates space for anger to move, change and be alchemized into something you can live with - clearer boundaries, deeper self-trust, honest expression, action, protection, creativity, or simply the freedom to know what you feel.

Through somatic, nervous-system-informed and relational work, you will:

  • Learn to recognize how anger shows up in your body, including the subtle shifts that can appear before you consciously know you are angry.

  • Explore what your anger is connected to, including needs, boundaries, hurt, grief, fear and resentment.

  • Develop greater capacity to stay present with the sensations and intensity of anger.

  • Notice patterns of suppressing anger, turning it inward, blaming yourself, or reaching a point where it becomes overwhelming.

  • Explore what happens to your anger in relationships, especially when honesty, conflict or disconnection feels risky.

  • Build greater trust in your needs, boundaries and emotional responses, and find ways for anger to have movement and expression in your life.

Our relationship with anger is shaped by more than our personal histories.

The way our anger is perceived and responded to is also influenced by the body we live in, including how that body is read through gender, race, disability, age, class and culture. Some of us are given more room to express anger, while for others it can carry very different consequences.

These experiences can become deeply woven into what feels possible, safe or permitted when anger arises, and they have a place in our work whenever they are part of your story.

Is Anger in Motion for you?

This program may be for you if:

You have been feeling on edge, easily overwhelmed, frustrated, or closer to losing your shit than you would like to be. Maybe anger is very present in your life, or you barely feel it at all and have learned to push it down, turn it inward, or call it something else.

You may hold things in for a long time and find resentment building underneath. You might shut down, become anxious or blame yourself, then eventually reach a point where you explode. Anger may feel frightening, shameful, or difficult to express when important relationships are at stake.

Persistent tightness, bracing, aches or other physical discomfort may exist alongside anger, stress and emotional strain. You may be curious about what happens in your body when anger begins to move.

Your relationship with anger may go deeper than any single situation, carrying grief, fear, hurt, injustice, protection and experiences from your past. You want space to explore that complexity, build your capacity to feel anger safely, and allow it to move and change.

This program may not be for you if:

Anger in Motion asks for a willingness to be curious about what happens in your body and relationships, and to spend time with experiences that may sometimes feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar.

This work may not be the right fit for you at this time if you are looking primarily for techniques to control or get rid of anger, or if you want clear instructions for how you should respond when anger arises.

The process is experiential and relational, and includes attention to sensations, emotions, patterns, needs and boundaries. You will also be invited to engage with the work between sessions through body-based practices and reflection.

You don't need to be comfortable with anger before you begin. Being afraid of your anger, disconnected from it, unsure whether you even feel it, or worried about what might happen if you let yourself feel more of it are all very welcome starting places.

How Anger in Motion Works

6 weeks · Private online · 90-minute weekly sessions · Open to all genders

Between sessions, you will receive body-based, nervous system informed practices to support integration. This in-between space is an important part of the process, allowing the work to settle, deepen, and become more available in your body and relationships.

“I did Anger In Motion sessions with Gabriella. Through this experience, I learned to listen to my body and reconnect. I started to feel into my body more and learned how bodily sensations are speaking to me, and how to listen to that and use it to communicate. I learned how anger is actually a friend that tells me when I’m not okay with situations.

We did several sessions and uncovered a pattern that I’ve been using my whole life to deal with—or avoid—this feeling. When we explored this through drawing, it looked so simple. I could see I was doing this pattern in the drawing, but I just wasn’t aware of it before.

I am so grateful for this healing experience. I struggle with a physical disease, which is also improving now. I believe that this is all connected.”
