Our Approach

We begin exactly where you are.

You don't need to know how to listen to your body, find the right sensation, move in a certain way, or explain why you feel as you do.

For many of us, paying close attention to the body is unfamiliar. We live in cultures that asks us to do, achieve and keep going, and simply being with what we are experiencing can take some getting used to.

During our sessions, I will gently guide and accompany you as we become curious about what is available in that moment. It might begin with a sensation, a breath, a small movement, tension, pain or an emotion.

Sometimes the work is about doing less: using less effort, making a movement smaller, pausing, or discovering that your body has more than one way to respond. There is no correct way to do this, and we work with the capacity that is available to you that day.

Choice is an important part of how we work together.

As sensations or emotions change, we can stay curious, pause, move towards something that feels more supportive, or stop.

I will offer guidance, reflect what I notice and help you discover resources you can return to both within our sessions and outside them.

Gradually, you may begin to recognize some of your own patterns and signals, understand what helps your body find a little more ease, and experience more possibility in how you respond.

My hope for these three sessions is that you leave with greater curiosity about the body you live in, a few ways of listening and responding to it that belong to you, and a sense that your body can become a place you know a little better.

What Brings You Here

You’re curious about somatic work

You may be completely new to body-based practices and want somewhere gentle and supported to begin.

You experience chronic pain or persistent tension

You would like to explore what you experience with care, without forcing your body or pushing beyond your capacity.

It can be difficult to understand your body’s signals

You may find sensations difficult to notice, interpret or respond to, and would like to become more familiar with what your body is communicating.

You notice that your emotions and body affect each other

Perhaps stress changes your breathing, anger brings tension, or certain sensations seem to arrive alongside particular emotions. You would like to understand these connections more deeply.

You sometimes feel disconnected from your body

You may spend much of your time thinking, doing or taking care of what needs to happen, and want some support in developing a different relationship with your physical experience.

You want to find more ease and use less effort

You are curious about the ways you move, hold tension or respond to sensations, and what might become possible when your body doesn’t have to work quite so hard.

You want more choice in how you respond

You would like to become more familiar with your own patterns and develop ways of meeting sensations, emotions and discomfort with greater curiosity and capacity.

All genders, bodies and abilities are welcome.

FAQs

Do I need to talk about my past or difficult experiences?

No. You don't need to talk about anything you don't want to share. We will be in conversation throughout the sessions, and I will regularly check in with you about what you are experiencing and what feels okay to explore.

If memories, emotions or personal experiences arise and you feel open to sharing them, there is space for that too. You get to decide how much you want to say and where you would like your attention to go.

What if I find it difficult to feel or notice sensations in my body?

That's completely welcome here. There can be many reasons why noticing sensations feels difficult, unfamiliar or confusing, and you don't need to already be good at sensing your body for us to work together.

We begin with what you can notice and with your capacity in that moment. There is no right amount to feel and nothing you need to produce. These sessions can be a gentle way to begin developing more awareness of your body's signals without judgment or pressure.

What if I experience chronic pain or have limited mobility?

The work is adapted to your body and your individual capacity. If you live with pain or have limited mobility, we can work with smaller movements, different positions, or very subtle changes in sensation and attention.

The intention is to allow your capacity to grow without pushing your body or nervous system beyond what feels manageable. Discomfort can sometimes arise while exploring the body, and you are always in the driver's seat: we can slow down, pause, change direction or stop whenever you need to.

Will I need to exercise or do specific movements?

This isn't an exercise session and there isn't a predetermined set of movements you need to perform.

Movement can be part of our work, and its form depends on you. For one person, exploring something might involve a larger movement; for another, particularly when pain or limited mobility is present, a tiny movement may be much more appropriate. Sometimes we may spend time simply noticing rather than moving at all.

You never need to push through an experience. If something begins to feel uncomfortable, we can pause, slow down, move towards something that feels more supportive, or stop.

Sometimes you may feel curious about staying with a degree of discomfort and noticing what happens. If so, we can explore it together for as long as it continues to feel manageable to you. You remain in charge of how far we go.

What if something feels uncomfortable or overwhelming during a session?

What actually happens during a session?

We begin with where you are that day. There is no set sequence that everyone needs to follow. We might begin with a physical sensation, an emotion, tension or pain, and become curious about how you experience it in your body. We may explore it through attention, conversation, movement or simply noticing what changes as we stay with it.

Sometimes this involves very small, subtle movements; at other times, your body may want more movement. The session unfolds in response to you rather than asking your body to fit into a particular practice.

You can begin exactly where you are.

You don't need to know what your body needs, have experience with somatic work, or arrive with a clear goal. If something you've read here speaks to you, you're welcome to tell me a little about yourself and what brings you here.
